Brininwho

My name is Andrew Brininstool. I am a National Endowment for the Arts fellow in Prose and a PEN / Writing for Justice Fellowship finalist. I am a graduate of the MFA Program at the House Barthelme Built, the University of Houston. I was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and currently live in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

Really, though: I have a book coming out from the University of Iowa Press. It is titled AIN’T NAMING NO NAMES: Murder, Chaos, & Coverup Inside America’s Most Violent Prison Riot.

It tells the story of the 1980 riot at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, or Old Main. More to it: the book tells the story of two brothers, Jeff and Gary Williams. Both survived the riot, though Jeff was so badly assaulted the Albuquerque Journal described him as among the dead. But Jeff wasn’t dead. In fact, nobody knew where he was. Not his family, not the medical community, and not the Corrections Department—who, in the chaos, had lost track over 118 inmates.

Jeff was found killed in October. His brother Gary, in looking for answers to Jeff’s death, went missing on Thanksgiving, 1980. By Christmas of that year, the Williams’s family had lost both of their sons—and there is ample evidence as to who was behind these homicides, and why.

Thus, this page is for updates, addendums, things I won’t place in the book but wrote nonetheless. I’ll also publish original fiction here. And there will be giveaways, prizes, awards and rewards for the readers.

I love you.
